My work explores the intersection of the natural world and the manufactured world through the lens of entropy and disruption.
I choose to depict this intersection with beauty, celebrating the intimate tension we sense, and how it manifests in the real world around us. To me, this beauty is material and analog. My work is tactile; I use textures – pieces of fabrics sewn together, plaster, paints and found objects – to give physicality to this tension.
Currently, I am examining the concept of the “landscape painting”. What is a landscape during the Anthropocene, where lies the opposing forces of entropy and disruption, and how can landscapes provide instruction, reverence and hope for us all during this time of massive environmental dislocation?
Q+A
How long have you been creating art?
I like to say that I began life as an artist and will die an artist but in between I took some pretty serious career detours. It wasn't until my 40's that I started my professional art practice!
When I'm not making art, I'm (a) ...
reading, spending time in nature, going to art galleries, spending time with friends, oh and cooking/eating food! I love food!
